LARE Update
LJA will be investing $23,000.00 to help maintain water quality in Lake James. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has recently awarded an $115,000 LARE grant to the Lake James Association. The grant has two components. $78,346 for the Lake James- Croxton Wetlands construction project. This project is designed to help minimize the amounts of silt running into Lake James at Lagoona Park. $36,650 for an Engineering Feasibility study to determine the cost of additional upstream projects to protect our waters.
Both projects are not without cost. LJA is responsible for a 20% match of the grants. We are very fortunate that these funds are available to invest at this time in the project and make them possible. Thanks to our association members' generosity in prior years to our LARE Reserve account and the financial over sight of the LJA board to assure that the funds were reserved for this opportunity.
It is also important to note that that these reserves will need to be replenished to allow LJA to
continue our efforts for the benefit of Lake James and all who enjoy the lake.
